Vestas, the Denmark-based manufacturer of Charlestown’s proposed wind turbines, states in its own safety manual for operators and technicians that all support personnel must maintain a distance (radius) of 1300 feet from the turbines when they are in operational mode.

In New Jersey, the most densely populated state in the country followed by Rhode Island, the state legislature introduced a bill in November, 2010, requiring a 2000 ft setback for industrial wind turbines. http://www.windturbinesyndrome.com/news/2010/new-jersey-lawmakers-endorse-wind-turbine-syndrome-calling-for-2000-ft-setbacks/
Yet, in Charlestown and neighboring towns, wind developers are being permitted, and in our case were even encouraged, to erect industrial turbines 500 feet or less from private homes.

Standards for the health, safety, and welfare of ordinary citizens must be a priority for government regulators as the wind turbine industry seeks to establish itself as the primary alternative energy option for our country. You have the right to protection from property depreciation and health degradation due to reckless development practices of land use developers. Insist on stringent government standards for all industrial wind turbine applications.  Contact your local representatives and senators. Insist that any industrial wind turbine be subject to a miniumum setback of 1.5 miles from any home.
